THAT SHOW BLOG!!!!! 23 May 2012

It’s time for THAT SHOW!!!!!!

The JHB party expert Nicole Samakosky from www.jhblive.com tells us exactly what we should be doing this week and weekend. Places to go party, drink and eat are just the tip of the iceberg go check out www.jhblive.com

What you should be listening to goes more electro then it has been in the past.

The first is called Toe Jam by The BPA (The Brighton Port Authority) of the album I think we’re going to need a bigger boat. The BPA was created by Norman Cook who is the front man of FatboySlimToe Jam features David Byrne from the Talking heads and Dizzie Rascel. It’s a different type of electronic featuring brass instruments and more a of a rock feel then a electronic feel. The music video is interesting with nude models that are censored use the concord black across their naughty bits to make shapes. Throughout The BPA album there are guest artist from Iggy pop and Martha Wainwright. If you like this song listen to He’s Frank and Superman. Check out eh music video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97Q6XYPG5LU

We’re staying with electronic with the second track. It’s called The Number Song by DJ Shadow of the Album Endtroducing… It was DJ Shadows first album. Joshua Paul "Josh" Davis better known as DJ shadow has been around since about 1996. The Song has throw backs to classic samples and has a funk feel that mixes perfectly with the Electronic beats and scratching. If you like this listen to Best foot Forward and What does your soul look like. Check out the music video at Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXl6D4oYIeg&feature=related

What you should be watching on YouTube is full of exciting and a bit disturbing videos this week.
The first is the much anticipated and really hyped up trailer for Anchorman 2. The just hit the web and has already exploded on Funny or Die and YouTube. Check it out at Anchorman trailer 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdh4dXfhvls

The second video is just weird and I think wrong. They have combined star with the ultimate in evil LMFAO. It is a video of a dance competition where Chewbacca dances to Sexy and I know by LMFAO. The video is called Chewbacca, Slave Leia & more dance to LMFAO in Dance-Off with the Star Wars Stars 2012. Its only had about 25 000 views but I have a feeling it will get more either from LMFAO fans or star was fans that wan revenge for what they did to Chewbacca http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5n7y1Kwg2

Keeping with the weird, the third video is a parody and a very dark but really funny parody of Call me Maybe by Carly Rae Jaspen. The video is called Honker Jones - Call Me Maybe - Side by Side Parody and is a side by side video of the original and the Honker Jones version of the song. It’s a bit twisted but awesome. It’s just over 3 weeks old and has about 10.000 views. Check out the video at also take a look at Honker Jones YouTube Channel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFxnAITCv5o

Seeing as our “what you should be listening to” was electronic I think it would be nice to do some Vlogs on DJing. I found 2 really good channels that give you basics on how to DJ at home or at the club.

The first is called How to DJ: Getting Started at Home and comes from the channel Howcast. We have spoken about Howcast before but this is a really good channel that give you really good basics about DJing. The link I gave you is all about getting started at home with some useful tips. Click on the links on the side to find out more info. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AyN27Q2pIw

The second is from the channel called DJdevine520 where he goes through the basics of Djing from equipment to what you should and shouldn’t do. He also gives good examples. Check out his channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/DJDivine520

Our Interesting Career of the week come from music journalist Genevieve Viera. She is the Editor of the new music website called indiedoesit.co.za. www.indiedoesit.co.za is a great place to get the best music news, gossip, entertainment and commentary. We are going to discuss things like what is it like running a music website in South Africa, how did she start the website and why as well as much more. THAT SHOW BLOG!!!!! 16 May 2012
Hello everybody!!!!!!!!

Its time for THAT SHOW!!!!!!(Look at all the glorious exclamation marks)

Nicole Samakosky from www.jhblive.com tells us exactly what we should be doing this week and weekend. Places to go party, drink and eat are just the tip of the iceberg go check out jhblive.com

The 2 songs you should be listening to tonight come from two bands from the United Kingdom and you can hear it.
The first is from a band called The Twist by Frightened Rabbit of the album The Midnight Organ Fight. They are a Scottish indie rock band. They have a distinct sound that is soothing but not boring. The band released their first EP in 2008 and have been playing on the underground circuit for some time. The Twist is nice to listen as it has a nice melody good instrumentation and the chorus comes in at the right points. If you like this listen to Modern leper and Old Old Fashioned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOh6kKrQioE

The 2nd song is called The Prayer by Bloc Party from the Album A weekend in the City. It starts of almost like a chant with a marching type of beat in the background then it builds up into a real rock song. They are a British Rock band and it comes out very clear in the accent and the feel of the song. The faster and harder parts of the song are a great contrast to the verses with the driving guitar and drums. If you like this listen to Hunting for witches and Waiting for the 7.18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQR9sUQm6Bo

In the YouTube section of the show I put together 3 different but all enjoyable videos.
Our first video actually comes from a YouTube channel called Smoosh and is called 7 year old does Twilight! The guys from Smoosh asked a 7 year old girl who hasn’t seen twilight to tell the story purely based on the movie trailers and then they act it out. It’s really funny and has had 3million hits in 3 days http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdCAQirclMg&feature=g-logo

The second video is called Girl blown by plane its’ had over 6 million views and is a video of an airport in Brazil where the runway starts at a beach where people stand behind the jet engines. This particular video goes horribly wrong for one girl who gets blown into a concrete pillar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV28AL0k1kY

The third video is a Cat and Puppy video (only like the most deadly YouTube combination.) This video called Colossal cat vs peppy pooch it is of a cat teaching a puppy how to roll over. Its’ had just over 100.000 views in 3 days and its really super duper cute you just want to vomit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQcWy_qX8kQ&feature=player_embedded

In the Vlog section thought we should do something on how to make YouTube videos. So I found some good Channels on how to do this. In the Vlog section we are discussing how to make a YouTube video. The first come from a channel called SteveHarris508 where Steve gives us good tips on how to make a YouTube video of any kind. He discusses things like what you need to make the video to the software you need to edit it. The link I have provided is a for an introduction to making YouTube videos it is the first of a 2 part video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hsuy4cUJe9o

Our second Vlog is from a channel called nyvs this channel give you the basics of what to look for and what to do for creating a YouTube video from where to film, what to film and storytelling basics. I think this is a great channel because unlike the other channels this focuses on making videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/nyvs

In the interesting career of the week I speak to Nikki Spurdle and Mark Chaskelson from Inkwell-Desings. They are a graphic design and multimedia company and I want to find out all about what they do and how to do it. Check out their YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/markmakingdesigns?feature=results_main and website at www.inkwell.co.za

I end with the regular tech update with Brendon Ambrose from www.techhuman.com where we talk about FNB's geopayments, the rumored next gen MacBook Pro's, and Whatsapp and iMessage and why the networks are not fans of them.

Blog  for That Show Wednesday 9 May 2012 9-10pm

It’s that time again It’s THAT SHOW!!!!
In honour of the late great Adam ‘MCA’ Yaoch from the Beastie Boys Who died on the 4th of May THAT SHOW is paying tribute by playing only rock music.

We Rock things out with our regular gig guide with Nicole Samakosky from www.jhblive.com who gives us the low down on everything to do in Jozi this week and weekend

The first track you should be listening to is in honor of Adam ‘MCA’ Yoach of the Beastie Boys. The best way to pay tribute to him is to tell you to listen to my Favorite Beastie Boys song is Intergalactic of the album Hello nasty.  When you listen to this song the electric synth in the background the rock and the chorus make you stand up and say “THIS IS THE BEASTIE BOYS”. For me this is one their defining songs. Apart from the awesome music video it is really a great song. Listen to Ch-check it out and Make some noise the video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qORYO0atB6g&ob=av2e

Our second song is from Jack Whites new solo album called Blunderbuss the song is called Sixteen Sultines. It’s the kind of music you would expect from Jack White. It’s grungy, it’s rocky, its noisy, its everything you want. The lyrics are a bit weird but they still fun to listen too. The hard rock punches you in the gut and pushes you forward the entire time. If you like this listen to Love interruption and for some classic white strips go have a listen to Seven nation army. Check out the live performance of the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8mXX8f-djA

Keeping with the rock theme our YouTube videos is all about rock.
I have 3 great rock YouTube videos from the impressive to the not so impressive.
The first video is  called 'My First Hardcore Song' by 8 yr old Juliet OFFICIAL and is about a 8 year girl singing pure hard rock it has had over 23 Million views. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU6U-8LP1DY
Our second video is called Worst Way To Get Caught Lip Synching - Squeeze Theeze Pleeze its had 500.000 views and is a perfect example of how not to lip sync http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc27kgv0Fq0
The last video is called EPIC Drum Solo FAIL! The video is about 2 mins long has had about 1.5 million views and the video gets really gross I mean great at about 1 min in. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkFaIpDg194

Staying on the topic of rock I am covering how to make music Vlogs. The 1st video is about how to play the guitar for beginners from Youtuber Andreas Oberg his channel is all about guitar techniques for beginners and more experienced the channel is called aobergguitaruniverse http://www.youtube.com/user/aobergguitaruniverse

"That Show" tonight

THAT SHOW Blog 2 May 2012
Hello Everybody!!!!
We have our regular gig guide of what to do in JOZI this week and weekend with Nicole Samakosky from www.jhblive.com
The 2 songs you have to listen to this week are great. The first is called Shake me down by Cage the Elephant of the album Thank you happy birthday. They are a dirty gritty rock/indie band. They actually sound like they whining more than singing but at the same time sounds really good. The sound that they produce has a old record feel and sounds like it was recorded in a old school studio that give them their unique sound, it sounds a bit like you’re listening to them through a steel bin. Other tracks to listen to are Indy Kids and Rubber ball check out the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v27TRan1SBI&ob=av2e
Song two is called Smokers outside the hospital door from English rock group Editors of the album An End has a start. I find the music pushes you somewhere, it drives you forward and makes you want to hear the next chorus or verse, the lead singer (Tom Smith) has a deep round voice and this make them really nice to listen to. They have very easy listening choruses and gentle verses. If you like this song, listen to The weight of the world and Bones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59Z9DIH_FAA&ob=av2n
In our YouTube section I found 3 really good and different videos. The first is called Lucky Catch for $57 a video where a older brother saves $125 and tells his little brother that he is going to throw the money in the air thinking that it will go all over the place and however much the younger brother catches he can keep. The younger brother catches a lot of the money. After catching the money the brother does the most amazing victory dance. Its’ had about 1.8million views http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WLD2-uYIjCs
Video 2 is called something in Russian but let’s call it band on the run. It seems like in Russia you can pretty much do what you want. And in this video these 3 guys turn a motorbike into a portable concert. It’s a band playing on a motorbike on the highway and they are very good. Its’ had about 5million views http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zxxM9EYQzY&feature=youtu.be
The 3rd video is super fresh of the internet and is called Girl swallowed by pavement in china it has had 2.5million views and is exactly what the title says. This girl is walking on the pavement minding her own business when the street below her gives way and she falls into the whole. She does get rescued by a taxi driver who passes by just at the right time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_B1PkgA3kA&feature=player_embedded
In the vlog section we are covering how to study for exams as they are fast approaching. The first vlog comes from SamfordCommunication they cover a wide aspect of studying topics but the link below is part of a series of 5 videos. This video is the first of 5 check out the link to get the rest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH95h36NChI

This song comes of the soundtrack for Nick and Norah’s infinite playlist If you like this song listen to click click click and Dimmer check out Middle management on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGKfZy7X3-E

Our second song is called Days are forgotten by Kasabian of the Album Veloceraptor! This song became a huge viral hit on Youtube getting over 4million views. Coming up on That Show tonight - a word from Bryan

Its Wednesday night and I hope you're all warm and toasty listening to your radio because it’s time for THAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our regular Nicole Samakosky gives us the low down or down low on what happening in JHB for the rest of the week and whats coming up over the weekend.
I've chosen 2 excellent songs for ‘What you should be listening too’. The first is from English Folk Rock band Mumford and sons the song is called The Cave of the album Sigh No More. The song really pulls you in with the double bass and raspyness of the lead singers voice. Their music has a bit of a depressing feel to it, but if you like that style of music Mumford and Sons is a must. Listen to Winter winds, Roll away your stone and little lion man. Check out The Cave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNy8llTLvuA
Our second song comes from My Chemical Romance the song s called NA NA NA NA NA of the albume True Live of the Fabulous Killjoys. It is a rock anthem that follows the likes of their last massive hit The Black Parade. The rock beats and electric guitar rifts make this song just pure fun to listen too when driving, working out or just wanting to zone out. If you like this song listen to Sing, The black Parade and Scarecrow. Check out the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egG7fiE89IU&ob=av2e
On YouTube I found 3 awesome videos the 1st video is a commercial called New Weetabix Chocolate Spoonsize Advert it’s been viewed about 1.6 million times and is a cereal commercial where a girl has a spoon of this cereal and her teddy bears come to life and they start dancing to Dubstep. It’s very cool check it out www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YpOw8o34BM
The 2nd video is called Learning "Fire Pit" and is a video of a little girl who can’t say fire pit. The best part of this video is the way the girl reacts to the words she is saying and her parents encouraging her to keep trying it’s a new video only having about 100.000 views. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uDHlmMtEwOM#!
The 3rd video has a Russian name so I can’t pronounce it but it’s a video of a dog and a cat in a tree. What’s amazing is how the dog got in the tree. It’s had about 150,000 views. It’s not funny or interesting, it just makes you go wtf…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5od1V3JtewI.
In the “How to Vlog” section we are focusing on how to write a blog. I chose channels that give you the best ideas and tips on how to blog the first YouTube channel I found is called free tutorials and doesn’t just focus on Blogs but on a whole lot of general things.
